micro.blog is a microblogging and social networking service built on Jekyll and launched on April 24, 2017 by Manton Reece after a successful Kickstarter campaign that was fully funded within one day.
It is the first large multi-user social media service to support the Webmention and Micropub specs from the World Wide Web Consortium. The service offers hosted accounts, but also utilizes RSS feeds to allow users to personally own their own content and syndicate it into the network. As of 2017 all other popular social networking services own the user's data and host it on their behalf. The architecture of the service is topographically "flatter" than federated social networks like Mastodon or GNU Social and thus micro.blog is more open than other social services.
In response to criticisms of abuse by community members on Twitter, the service promised better community guidelines and moderation if necessary.
The service allows import of a user's Twitter timeline data as well as the defunct microblogging platform App.net.
The web hosting service DreamHost both supported micro.blog's Kickstarter campaign, and announced their intent to help customers create independent microblogs hosted at DreamHost that are compatible with micro.blog.
